As AdWords keeps growing, it&#8217;s obvious that many marketers are finding it profitable, even as competition becomes more intense. In order to get a good return on your investment with AdWords, you have to use a proven strategy and avoid making costly mistakes. Watch out for some of the following mistakes in your campaigns.</p>

<p>The first mistake most people make with Adwords is using keywords that are too broad. The entire idea behind Adwords is to get traffic to your site that&#8217;s already looking for what you offer, and this can&#8217;t happen if your subject is too broad. If you don&#8217;t listen to this step, then you risk false clicks, which would mean all your hard work was for nothing.</p>
<p>When you create an ad campaign and also the ad groups, you need to have tightly matched keywords. Lots of people don&#8217;t listen to this and that means they&#8217;re going to lose money later on when people click on their ads but don&#8217;t buy. In order to avoid this mistake you should have only a few keywords into each of your ad groups and create more groups to make sure all your keywords are themed. Just know that you cannot have more than one hundred ad groups per account, so you will want to ensure you stay well under that number. </p>
<p>There&#8217;s another mistake that&#8217;s very big and that&#8217;s not using a landing page and instead sending people to a home or some other page. Don&#8217;t confuse people with your home page, as they won&#8217;t know where to go and they&#8217;ll likely find some other page to visit.</p>

<p>Another mistake people often make is they go into the content network, without first modifying their bids. The content network should only be used by people who are considered experts. If you do go there, be careful what you bid. Google recently modified Adwords so that people could bid different amounts of the content network and the search results. Don&#8217;t make the mistake, then, of having a different bid amount set for the content network, as you&#8217;ll end up overspending. When there are lower prices on your chosen keywords, your CTR will stay at the same level, even after your bidding as gone down. That means that Google Adwords can give you the targeted convertible traffic you want, but you should also know that it could potentially break you financially. The mistakes you just read about are made by all kinds of Adwords users, new and otherwise. They sometimes don&#8217;t even see it until their money&#8217;s all gone. You must get a real handle on how you work it before you consider utilizing it. You are about to read about some common mistakes that you should avoid at all costs.</p>

<p>You must not commit the blunder of not testing where your ad goes, especially if the primary position is your objective. Many would say this is where you want to be, but it can actually be a bad thing. Just because you&#8217;re at the top of the list doesn&#8217;t mean the money will come flowing in. It turns out that you may get higher click through rates being in a lower position than at the top. So it&#8217;s important to test the return on investment for each of your positions. In many cases you&#8217;ll make more money in the 4th or 5th position, just because you&#8217;re paying less, which means your customer acquisition cost is lower. You should never big too high just to inflate your quality score. CTR plays a small part in your quality score rating. So you shouldn&#8217;t assume that the more money you spend, the more your quality rating will be, as that&#8217;s incorrect. Your focus should be on how effective your landing page is, how your ads pertain to your campaign and also whether or not your campaign as a whole could improve. You can only increase your quality score this way, and spending more money is the wrong way to go.</p>
<p>Ads must also be tracked, just as they must be tested. Don&#8217;t just depend on one form of tracking but use the conversion tracking code to speed up things. Most people make the mistake of forgoing this part. If you were to use Adwords to sell something on the internet, for example, an e-commerce tracking code could then be used to track anything you sell. This will ensure that you always keep in mind how you&#8217;re doing. </p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been unable to make money from Adwords, it&#8217;s likely that you have been making some of these same mistakes. Lots of people who begin using Adwords see losses and then don&#8217;t ever try again, and instead they need to see what isn&#8217;t working. This is why it&#8217;s important to be aware of these mistakes before you use Adwords so that you can avoid making them.</p>

Many beginners are tempted to throw all of their keywords into one ad group. The problem is that you will have a hard time targeting your keywords this way, as you will have several variations on your keywords. Since your goal is to target your keywords as much as possible, you are better off making separate ads for different keywords. You will have more effective ads this way, as they will be more distinct and targeted. Your bid should stay low, as you should never try to bid high just to increase your score of quality. CTR plays a small part in your quality score rating. You won&#8217;t just get a top quality score by spending more money, as if you thought that it&#8217;s incorrect. Almost a decade back, Google was launched, a website that aimed at solving the problem of searching information online. A few years after that, the company got successful and launched their very own advertising platform called AdWords. Google Adwords has, since then, led all other pay per click ad platforms in the market. Google is still ahead of the game because of all the technology it brings to the table and also because of the results people are seeing. Absolutely no one can come close to the company in this regard. How come everyone doesn&#8217;t succeed when they first begin, however? If it&#8217;s such a great program, how come people end up throwing their money away and quitting when it doesn&#8217;t work for them? That is due to the fact that they constantly make blunders which you can avoid if you just keep them in mind.</p>

<p>One of the biggest mistakes you can make with AdWords is only using one ad group for all your different keywords rather than creating different ad groups. It can get tempting to dump all of your keywords into one single ad group. The problem is that you will have a hard time targeting your keywords this way, as you will have several variations on your keywords. If you create multiple ad groups you can more efficiently target your different keywords. This will make sure that your ads stay unique along with the keywords being relevant. </p>
<p>There&#8217;s another mistake that&#8217;s very big and that&#8217;s not using a landing page and instead sending people to a home or some other page. The reason this doesn&#8217;t work is because your home page is usually filled with lots of information, which is confusing to visitors and causes them to go somewhere else.</p>
<p>This is why it&#8217;s very important that you really concentrate on making a landing page that goes right along with your advertisement.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t make the mistake of forgetting to include your keywords in the body of your ad. You should use keywords in the title of your ad and also in its copy. This is important to increase the response of your ad. There are many ad copywriters who write a good ad but forget to include the main keyword phrase in the text of the ad. People who read your ad should have a clear idea of what you&#8217;re offering. Apart from this create a landing page that matches your ad so that your user doesn&#8217;t feel lost and also to increase your Google Quality score. In short, if Google AdWords can give you traffic; it can also put a big dent in your wallet if you&#8217;re not careful. The mistakes you just learned about are made by new and old advertisers alike. They often don&#8217;t know it until they&#8217;re broke. But you can be educated and know how to avoid these mistakes beforehand to actually see results.</p>

<p>The first mistake is not testing where your ad places, especially if Google&#8217;s top position in the search is your goal.
